Wolf Teeth

Wolf teeth are small unused teeth which over time have become useless to the horse.

These teeth are found just in front of the premolars. As this is the place where the bit sits these wolf teeth often cause discomfort and pain to a horse when they come in contact with the bit.

They are usually found on the top jaw but can sometimes be found on the lower jaw.

They are found in both males and females and are found in over 80% of horses.

Wolf teeth sometimes don’t break through the gum and are known as blind wolf teeth. The gum over blind wolf teeth often becomes swollen and sore and can be very painful to a horse.

Wolf teeth and blind wolf teeth should be removed to avoid any discomfort being caused to the horse when ridden.
